The Outdoor Instructor Training Course – Soft Skills

Working as an outdoor instructor isn’t all about climbing hard routes and paddling challenging rivers, it’s about connecting with people through the outdoors. That is why the course aims to develop a range of soft skills, through practical sessions with real students, which will enable you to feel confident about working with groups. We will also cover some of the theory behind different learning and teaching styles to give you an insight into how they can affect your work as an instructor.

In addition, there will also be a series of lectures and other sessions to ensure that you are familiar with risk assessments, accident and incident forms, stores paperwork, Centre licensing and approval, the role of the Adventurous Activity Licensing Service, child protection and many other issues that are important when running and working in a busy outdoor centre.

How to Apply

To take your application further, please complete the application form (download to the right). This will enable us to find out a little more about you and your course needs. We will then organise an informal interview so you can come and visit the centre, meet the team and find out more about the course.

Please note that, as your practical experience will include working with youth groups, you will need to undergo full police checks as part of your acceptance onto the course.
