Why Choose Us?
Experienced Centre
The Adventure Centre was founded in 1991 and has been providing quality outdoor courses for a wide range of individuals and groups ever since. Our experience allows us to deliver structured, fun and rewarding programmes which develop skills and confidence in all participants.
Tailor Made Programmes
Many of our courses and training programmes can be tailor made to suit your needs. We can include accommodation, guide you towards advanced qualifications or even provide one-to-one tuition so you get the most out of your course. We care about your development and endeavour to exceed your expectations wherever possible.
Ideal Location
The Adventure Centre is situated on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park on the beautiful Kelly College estate. The River Tavy runs opposite the Centre and we are very close to numerous other moorlands, crags and rivers which highlight this area as one of the UK’s top spots for outdoor activities.
Outstanding Facilities
The Adventure Centre has excellent on-site facilities which allow us to run all or part of our programmes on-site. We have two briefing rooms which can be used for classroom based learning as well as Kelly Swimming Pool and our high ropes course. Excellent equipment stores can provide all the kit and equipment you may need along with a drying room for those wetter days. We also have different accommodation options, either self catering or with board included, enabling you to stay at the centre for the duration of your course.
Highly Qualified Staff
One of our main strengths is our instructors. The qualifications, levels of experience and maturity they bring to all our courses create a safe environment in which you can, and will be encouraged to, develop your personal or coaching skills. Our staff regularly pursue outdoor activities in their spare time which fuels their enthusiasm and provides them with a wealth of knowledge they can apply to their work at the centre.
Value for Money
As an Investor in People, The Adventure Centre firmly believes in personal development in the outdoors and we try to keep our course costs as low as possible. We design our programmes based on your needs and in accordance with the relevant governing bodies and as part of our continued effort to provide high quality courses that really are value for money, we appreciate your feedback on all aspects of the course.
Official Recognition & Partnerships
The Adventure Centre is regulated by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Service (AALS) ensuring safe practice in all activities and we are a British Canoe Union (BCU) approved centre, recognised to run paddling courses to an official standard. We also hold the AdventureMark Accreditation for outdoor centres. We are a member of the Institute for Outdoor Learning which encourages learning in the outdoors and supports those who practice in the outdoor industry. Members of our highly qualified staff team are also affiliated to the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI), the Mountain Leader Training Board (MLTB) and Kelly Enterprises Ltd has been awarded an Investor in People award.
Unique Activities
The Adventure Centre offers some great experiences which you won’t find anywhere else! The Bog Run is an activity we enjoy running as part of our Outdoor Instructor Training Course and it is often included in our Activity Week programme. We also make regular use of Nun’s Cross Farm, a remote farm building on Dartmoor, which is a great place to generate a sense of teamwork away from the distractions and trappings of the outside world.
Modern Kit and Equipment
We take pride in our kit and equipment as it is a very important part of our work in the outdoors. All staff at The Adventure Centre work hard to maintain this equipment and it is regularly replaced or updated so that you always have access to modern boats, tents or ropes as part of your course.
High Safety Standards
Our membership of AALS (L3368/R0554) includes an inspection by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure high standards of safety management. All necessary risk assessments have been approved by AALS and are checked on a regular basis. Additionally, all instructors are trained in adventure first aid and child protection.
